Workforce planning by industry and region

Posted by: Joel Capperella

Implicit in many of our discussions is the hiring manager. It’s easy to keep conversations and discussions of comprehensive workforce planning at a macro-level. However, this approach introduces the risk of not adequately considering the needs of very specific areas of talent.

What we’ve found in discussions with our clients at Yoh is that these very real needs, and the disconnect between those who have these needs and those who strategically plan a workforce, can frequently lead to some of the very operational issues we seek to avoid.

With that in mind, today we’d like to announce that we will be expanding the realm of The Seamless Workforce to better consider the realities of the hiring manager, at both macro- and micro-levels. We will soon be introducing you to specialists in the following areas: engineering; aerospace and defense; government and public sector; health care; life sciences; and telecommunications.

Every day, these specialists work with hiring managers who face the real challenge of quickly identifying and on-boarding great talent against needs that directly impact their major business objectives.

This new thread on The Seamless Workforce will include:

  • Talent demand trends. What are hiring managers in specific disciplines searching for? What sourcing strategies are they leveraging in order to expeditiously secure such talent?
  • Objectives and projects. Across the aforementioned areas of focus, our specialists will discuss the nature of work that is utilizing contract labor. We’ll cover the work itself, related projects, and the similarity across the disciplines. Most importantly, we’ll illustrate how these needs are being utilized to drive specific business objectives.
  • Talent innovation. Our specialists will periodically unveil some innovative talent and sourcing strategies that hiring managers are using to drive their objectives. This promises to highlight the mindset of forward-thinking hiring managers so that the rest of the Seamless community can better collaborate with them in order to develop sound and comprehensive workforce strategies.
  • Geographically speaking. While talent is consistent across the nation, there are many instances where the challenges vary by geography. We’ll highlight different locales from time to time to provide an honest snapshot of needs at the local level.

Be on the lookout as we introduce our contributors. In the meantime, we’d love to hear from our readers. If you have stories to share, or questions you want answered, send them our way. We’ll include them in this new series.
