HRO Today Forum Las Vegas: Great ideas amongst all the glitter

HRO Today Forum

Next week we are off to the HRO Today Forum in Las Vegas. Warm weather aside (after the past couple of very wet weeks in the East), I’m looking forward to the mix of sessions on recruitment process outsourcing (RPO), managed staffing, and HR technology that the Summit will offer.

It should be interesting to see how managed staffing is mixed into the RPO discussions again. Last time, the MSP stuff almost overtook the recruiting panels and discussions. My sense is that there are a lot of companies thinking about contingent labor and how to better manage the increase in the temporary workforce.

I noticed this year that Peter Cappelli is one of the featured speakers. Peter was kind enough to speak at a customer event we hosted a few years ago, and I’m excited to hear him speak again. He has some great insight into the changing workforce and how to better manage employment relationships. His book, “Talent Management: Managing Talent in an Age of Uncertainty, is a good read and will get you thinking about our diverse workforce and workplace dynamics.

I won’t be surprised if he and others discuss the challenges of attracting and managing multiple generations in the workforce. It was a big topic at the Human Capital Institute (HCI) Conference earlier this year. Peter Cappelli also has a book coming out about the aging workforce.

By the way, in case you haven’t noticed, most of the trade shows and conventions this year landed in Las Vegas. The low prices, locations, and the weather all make it a great place for a conference. After the HRO Today Forum, Yoh will be back for the 2011 SHRM Annual Conference in about a month.

If you are interested in workforce solutions, I strongly encourage you to come out to one of these types of events. They are a great way to find out what’s going on in many workforce-related areas, and they provide a great way to network with peers at other companies who have responsibility for HR, procurement, talent acquisition, or contingent labor.

Oh yeah, and it doesn’t hurt that they are held in fun places like Las Vegas. If you’re at the HRO Today Forum, you might just see a few of us at the craps table after hours. Seven come eleven!
