Movieclips Monday: The need for standardized hiring processes
Posted by:
If you are an HR practitioner, you’ve probably at one time or another defended your company’s interview process or policies. If you are in procurement, you’ve probably had to defend your list of approved suppliers or use of a managed staffing program.
If you’re still having trouble getting through to managers, maybe this week’s Movieclips Monday will help you succinctly explain why you have those things in place. It comes from the 80s classic “Ghostbusters,”as Dr. Venkman is experimenting on “negative reinforcement in ESP.”
Have a look:
I’ll admit this is not necessarily a job interview, but I think I’m safe in saying that if the good doctor had interviewed both of these candidates for an intern position, the young lady on the right would be a shoo-in.
Also, think about what happens when your manager selects your staffing supplier or hires an independent contractor. Does he or she go through a thorough and standardized vetting process, or is it more like Dr. Venkman’s assessment of this girl’s ESP abilities?
As we continue to weather this economic storm, we are seeing an increased use of independent contractors, and the likelihood that more managers will take things into their own hands again. It doesn’t take someone with ESP to figure out what happens if this continues — more risk and less quality. Not the stuff your company needs for a strong recovery.
Who you gonna call? (Sorry, I couldn’t resist).
