Movieclips Monday: Your Halloween treat
Finding your first job or re-entering the workforce after not having worked for a long period of time can be stressful. The key is to know your strengths and find a job that fits for both you and your employer.
Obviously, this is easier said than done. Every time we look for someone to hire in our department, I’m reminded of the valuable and difficult job recruiters (and job seekers) have.
For a Movieclips Monday Halloween treat, I found this little jewel from the Addams Family movies, where Morticia is forced to re-join the workforce (although I’m not certain she ever really had a job). It might remind you of some of the jobs you were offered or maybe even a job you took where you were the one who was crying in the end.
Today’s clip highlights a couple of things from both the recruiter and the job seeker perspectives. First, as the recruiter, it is always good to be optimistic and try to look for the best in people. However, don’t let that cloud your judgment on how the candidate will really fit the job. They can answer all the questions correctly but when they get to the job, will they really work out?
For the jobseeker, as much as you want that position (maybe working with kids for example), you have to truly think about whether it’s what you really want to do and if it fits your experience. If not, no one is going to be happy, and you’ll be back where you started.
